Know the Code
Always stay in
control and be able to stop or avoid other people
or objects.
People ahead
of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility
to avoid them.
You must
not stop where you obstruct a trail, or are not visible
from above.
Whenever
starting downhill or merging into a trail, look uphill
and yield to others.
Always use
devices to prevent run away equipment.
Observe
all posted signs and warnings. Keep off closed trails
and out of closed areas.
Prior to
using any lift, you must have the knowledge and ability
to load, ride and unload safely.

Safety Tips and Suggestions:
Avoid skiing or riding yourself into shape. You
will enjoy the sport more if you are physically fit.
Drink plenty of water; be careful not to become
dehydrated.
Wear your hats and glvoes. Consider mittens if
your hands get cold easily.
Bring sun protection with you; 15+ sunscreen
and a good pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes.
Know your limits. Stop before you become fatigued.
Most importantly, have fun and be safe.

Obtain Proper
Equipment: Be sure to have your ski or snowboard
bindings adjusted correctly at a local ski shop. You
can rent high quality ski or snowboard equipment from the
rental shop at 49. Take lessons. Like any activity,
you will improve with practice and guidance. 49 offers
an excellent ski school with Certified instructors.
Winter clothing, sun protection and sun glasses may
be purchased from the ski shop inside 49's lodge.
FROSTBITE
is the most common injury involved in Snow Sports

Frostnip is a precursor to frostbite. Watch
for these warning signs.
Mild tingling or pain followed by numbness.
Gray or yellowish patches of skin (Nose, ear,
face, fingers, or toes are the most common locations).
Have
someone else check your face and ears if you are unable
to. If frostnip symptoms are detected. Please come
see one of our patrollers right away!
Factors that heighten the
risk of Frostnip or Frostbite
Hypothermia
Alcohol
Smoking
Immobility Injury or Illness
Fatigue or Apathy
Previous Frostbite Injury
Wet Skin
Tight Boots, Gloves, or Clothing
